Looking for an OpusClip alternative? What to check before you switch

Before you switch from OpusClip, check whether the alternative takes Twitch and Kick links directly, how many hours of video you get for the money, whether unused time expires, how it crops a facecam over gameplay, and whether the free plan gives you a usable clip without a watermark.

Why people look for an alternative

OpusClip is a well-made tool and a lot of creators are happy with it. The people who go looking elsewhere tend to say one of three things: it's built for podcasts and talking-head videos rather than streams; the minutes run out faster than expected; or the free plan isn't enough to judge it.

None of that makes it a bad product. It means the fit depends on what you clip. If your source is a two-hour Twitch stream rather than a 40-minute podcast, the sums and the features look different.

Five things to check

1. Does it take the stream link?

Ask whether you can paste a twitch.tv/videos/... or kick.com/.../videos/... link and have the clips cut from the stream, or whether you have to download and upload the VOD. Clipscrybe takes Twitch, Kick and YouTube links directly, and also takes a video file dropped onto the page.

2. How are hours counted, and what do they cost?

At the time of writing, OpusClip's Pro plan is about $29 a month for 300 minutes of source video, which is around 5 hours. Clipscrybe's Pro plan is £19.99 a month for 15 hours of video, and Premium Plus is £27.99 for 30 hours. Work out how many hours you actually clip in a month and compare on that, not on the headline price.

Prices are correct at the time of writing. The pricing page always has the current numbers.

3. Do unused minutes expire?

Many tools, OpusClip included at the time of writing, reset their allowance each month, so a quiet month is wasted. Clipscrybe's extra hours are sold as tokens that never expire, so you can buy them for a busy stretch and keep whatever's left. Lifetime options and a Commercial plan for teams are also on the pricing page.

4. How does it handle a facecam?

Face-tracking on a podcast and face-tracking on a stream are different problems. On a stream, the face is a small box and the action is on the game. Check whether you can mark the facecam once and have every clip put you on top and the game below. If the tool only has a generic face-tracking crop, test it on your own layout before paying.

5. Is the free plan usable?

A free plan should let you judge the clips, not just see that clips exist. Clipscrybe's Free plan gives you 2 hours of video a month (videos up to 30 minutes, 5 a day), your best clips from each video, every caption style, and downloads with no watermark once you've created a free account. No card.

What you'd give up

Be fair about this. OpusClip has features Clipscrybe doesn't, including team workflows and scheduling built into the product, and a longer track record. If you post as a team with approval steps, that matters. If you're one person clipping your own streams, it probably doesn't.

What's the same

Word-by-word captions in several styles, AI-chosen moments with a score, auto editing with jump cuts and punch-in zooms, hooks and posting captions, brand kit, AI voiceover, and a “describe your edit” prompt. Clipscrybe also lets you swap any clip for a different moment, thumbs up or down clips so the picker learns, and move the cut points in a simple manual editor.

How to test it in ten minutes

  1. Paste the link to your last stream or video into clipscrybe.com.
  2. Open the first clip and read the captions. That tells you the transcript quality on your audio.
  3. Mark the facecam and see whether the crop is right.
  4. Download the clip. If it's good enough to post, you've answered the question.
